Friendly reminder: secure your trash — bears are active

Had a black bear go through a neighbor's cans over on the Aska side this week. Just a reminder for newcomers and renters: bring trash in at night, don't leave coolers/grills out, and never feed them. A fed bear is a dead bear, as they say.

    Good reminder. We learned the hard way our first month — bear-resistant can was worth every penny.

    If you're a cabin host, PLEASE tell your guests this. They leave the grill loaded and the trash out and then we all deal with the bear that learns the habit.

    Exactly. Report repeat visits to DNR's wildlife office too. They'd rather hear early.
