Moved here partly for the fishing (Trout Capital and all that). Where should a newcomer start on the Toccoa, and is it worth hiring a guide for the first few trips?

The tailwater below the dam is the classic stretch and stays cold all summer. Check the generation schedule before you wade — water comes up fast when they're running. A guide for a day or two is money well spent to learn it.

+1 on the guide. Also know your delayed-harvest vs. seasonal regs, they're not the same everywhere on the river. Plenty of wild and stocked trout if you put in the time.

Generation schedule, noted — didn't realize. Thank you both.
