Blue Ridge Reopens Its Farmers Market Pavilion, Adds Food Truck Thursdays and Second Saturdays

The City of Blue Ridge has reopened its revitalized Farmers Market at the covered pavilion on Summit Street and is building two free, recurring event series around it: Blue Ridge Food Truck Thursdays, running 5 to 8 p.m., and a monthly Second Saturday at the market. According to the city's announcement, the first Food Truck Thursday is tentatively set for Thursday, July 31, and the next Second Saturday is Saturday, Aug. 9.

Both are city-organized and free to walk into. That matters for families here, because the pavilion sits a short drive from downtown and an evening of food trucks costs whatever you decide to spend on dinner.

Where it is

The market pavilion is at 787 Summit Street. Longtime residents still call it the old farmers market. It is a covered structure, which is the practical detail worth knowing in a Blue Ridge summer: shade at 5 p.m., a roof when an afternoon storm rolls through the ridge.

The city has used the same space for themed market days already, including a Red, White & Blue Ridge edition that ran late morning into the afternoon in June.

What the city hasn't said yet

Quite a bit, honestly. The announcement says registration information for vendors and food trucks is coming soon, which means neither the lineup nor the number of trucks is public. The city has not posted dates for Food Truck Thursdays beyond the first one, and it labeled that date tentative. There is no published word on live music, alcohol sales, or whether the Thursday series runs weekly or monthly.

For anyone thinking about setting up a booth, the city's own website is the place the registration details are expected to land.

A busier calendar at the pavilion

The market building is not sitting empty the rest of the year. It also hosts Ridge Jam, a ticketed two-day bluegrass festival that raises money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and draws national touring bands under the same roof, with camping and food trucks on site. That one is not free, and gates open in the morning rather than the evening.

The city's next moves to watch are the vendor and food truck registration forms and a confirmed Food Truck Thursday schedule. Until those are posted, check the city's page before loading the family in the car for a Thursday evening, because the first date is still marked tentative.
